UPPER PENNAR PROJECT
Background and Preamble.
Upperpennar Project is a medium irrigation project constructed during 1959 across Pennar River at Perur (V), Ramagiri (M), Ananthapur District to irrigation 10,052 acres benefiting 14 Villages in four Mandals of Anantapur District Viz., Ramagiri Kanaganapalli ,Kambadur and Rapthadu.. The Left canal runs for length of 5.78 kms serving an ayacut of 580 acres in 15 villages and the Right Main Canal runs for a length of 24.60 kms serving an ayacut of 9,472 acres. The Gross storage capacity of the Reservoir is 1810Mcft(51.28 Mcum) and the Live storage is 1573 Mcft (44.57 Mcum)
The project is posed for modernization under JICA phase-II with a cost of Rs 12.00 Crores. The estimates were prepared and submitted to the JICA for according approval. However due to distress in JAPAN, JICA expressed its inability for assistance.
